Before Starting A Course
There are two preliminary steps:
First we recommend you have a trial lesson to see how you feel, this also counts towards the hours you require to qualify.
Secondly we strongly recommend you obtain the statutory Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Medical Certificate before commencing training. This
examination may only be carried out by a Doctor approved by the CAA of whom there are many
located throughout the U.K. A list of approved
Doctors is available at the School. The Medical does not call for anything outstanding in the way
of health and fitness; for example the wearing of
spectacles is normally acceptable.

Length of Course

The majority of our students do their training on a part-time basis, i.e. weekly, monthly or as often as time and budget allows. However, we also carry out intensive training for the Private Pilots Licence,(PPL) which normally takes 5-6 weeks weather permitting. Although this is the most efficient way to learn, it does however, require intensive work from the
Student.

The New Flying Syllabus
A mimimum of 45 hrs is required for the issue of a PPL. however if long gaps occur in your training, additional revision exercises will be required. The national average is about 50 hrs.
Initial Training. You will learn the basic manoeuvers required to fly the aircraft followed by take off and landing techniques (circuits). Once you have reached a satisfactory standard, passed the Aviation Law Exam and hold a current Medical Certificate, you will then be ready for your First Solo. This is an experience you will never forget.
Solo Consolidation. A total of 3 hours solo circuits are completed, as well as dual flight checks with your instructor.
Advanced Training. Further training will include advanced turns, practise forced landings, instrument appreciation and a solo trip in the
local area, but out of sight of the airfield.
Navigation. This involves planning and flying navigational routes with your instructor and then different routes on your own. This leads on to your solo "Qualifying Cross Country" flight, landing at two other airfields. Not quite as exciting as your first solo but close to it.Further instrument flying may be required to reach a total of 4 hours.
The training will then culminate with a Skills Test with one of our CAA approved Examiners.
